Teacher Preparation Program

The Patchwork School is one of the ONLY democratic schools in the country to offer a teacher preparation program that provides an internship opportunity which will allow you to obtain a teaching license and a Master's degree in education.

We are no longer accepting applications for 2010-2011 Interns, as the positions have been filled. However, we are looking for passionate, open-minded, caring people that are interested in applying for the 2011-2012 school year.

We are pleased to announce that Interns will now be able to obtain their degree through Goddard College's low-residency program in Vermont, where they will experience continuity in philosophy between their teaching practicum (at Patchwork) and their academic institute.  Through Goddard's Individualized Masters program, Interns are able to choose their focus and work on projects related to their actual interest.

The Goddard College based internship includes:

  • Earning a teaching license through the Teacher's Institute at La Academia. A Statement of Eligibility is required before the practicum can begin, and this process can take some time so it's best to start early. For details on this please contact The Teacher's Institute.
  • A Master's degree program through Goddard College's low-residency Education program in Vermont.
  • A teaching practicum at The Patchwork School with hands-on experience in the classroom week with a mentor teacher.

The Patchwork School will either provide funds towards tuition or a stipend. You can download the internship application here:

The timeline for applying is as follows:

  • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
  • Interviews of the top applicants will be conducted in the spring (a tour/observation of the school will be included with the interview).
  • Applicants will be notified of acceptance as soon as possible and, assuming Goddard acceptance, will begin the following August.
